Baseball: Chanhassen beats Wingers with walk-off double

A five-game losing streak nearly came to an end for Red Wing Tuesday night. But Chanhassen scored three times in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and take the Missota Conference matchup, 5-4.

Ty Denzer, Nick Smith and Gunnar McCarthy had consecutive one-out singles for the Storm in the seventh, with Denzer scoring on McCarthy’s hit. Jack Mattson then hit his second double of the game, clearing the bases and sending Chanhassen into the win column.

Tait Kelly led the Wingers with two hits in two at-bats to go along with two RBI. Zach Collins and Ryan Jonas also had an RBI for Red Wing, who falls to 2-9 on the season.

Cody Leitner took the loss after throwing all 6 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on 12 hits to go along with two strikeouts.

The Wingers will head north to Shakopee on Thursday, and then host Chaska on Saturday.
