Softball: Ellefson, Storm roll by Wingers

Trying for its fifth straight win, Red Wing ran into a buzzsaw in Chanhassen pitcher Elin Ellefson.

Ellefson set a school record with 15 strikeouts while holding the Wingers to two hits in a 6-1 Missota Conference victory Tuesday at Red Wing High School. She also helped her cause at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Down 1-0 after the top of the fourth inning, Hailey Kuhl tied the game up for Red Wing with a solo home run. Kelsey Reding was the only other Winger with a hit in the contest.

In the fifth, Chanhassen pulled away when Kali O’Keeffe connected with a three-run home run. The Storm (9-2, 8-1 Missota) added another run in the top of the seventh, and finished the game with seven total hits.

Although she was charged with the loss, Emily Boxrud had a solid game for Red Wing, striking out 10 and walking two in seven innings.

The Wingers (5-4, 1-4 Missota) stay at home on Wednesday for a conference doubleheader with Farmington.
