Golf: Red Wing girls win Prior Lake invite

For the first time this season, Red Wing left the friendly confines of Mississippi National Golf Links. But it didn’t matter as the Wingers won yet again, firing a 327 to take out 13 other teams at the Prior Lake Invitational at The Wilds.

Stephanie Herzog and Nicole Schammel both shot a 76, followed by Sopie Yoemans (87), Kayla Oberding (88) and Solveig Christenson (88).

“We played great,” said Red Wing head coach Mark Herzog. “This is about as good as we could play. We hadn’t seen the course, and it was challenging around the greens. The difficulty of the approaches was the difference. If you missed, you were looking at doubles and triples all day. And we beat some very good teams.”

Eden Prairie took second with a 339. New Prague (341), Lakeville North (360) and Cretin-Derham Hall (361) rounded out the top five.

Red Wing will compete in a Missota Conference match Wednesday at Stone Brook in Shakopee.
