Softball: Chanhassen rocks Wingers with walk-off homer

Red Wing was a half-inning away from its second Missota Conference victory of the season, but Elin Ellefson put Chanhassen into the win column with a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Winger Emily Boxrud took the 3-2 loss, giving up three earned runs and a walk while striking out five.

Red Wing’s runs also came via the long ball, courtesy of a Rebecca Swenning two-run shot in the third inning that scored Jordan Munson. Hailey Kuhl had the only other hit for the Wingers.

“It was a well-played game, the way softball should be played,” said Red Wing head coach Jon Bohmbach. “It’s hard to say anything (to the team), to see it slip through our hands, it’s tough. I just told them to keep their heads up and we’ll try to get them at our place. We played good defense and shut them down but we left that one pitch and, to their credit, they hit it out.”

The Wingers (1-2) are scheduled to play at home Thursday against Shakopee. Red Wing will head to Minneapolis Southwest Friday.
