Girls Basketball: Red Wing ends regular season with a loss

With Shakopee playing for sole possession of the Missota Conference title, the Sabers built a 48-19 halftime lead and never gave Red Wing a chance with a 68-34 conference-clinching victory Saturday in Shakopee.

McKenzie Muelken was the only Winger in double digits with 10 points. Kara Norvet had six points and four assists, and Maddie Faas finished with five points.

Shakopee’s fast start came from the outside as the Sabers (21-4, 12-2 Missota) hit 11 of their 13 3-pointers in the first 18 minutes.

Finishing the regular season at 7-19 and 2-12 in the Missota, Red Wing shifts its focus to the Section 4AAA tournament. Earning the fourth seed, the Wingers will play host to Visitation (10-13) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sonju Gymnasium.

“We saw them play two weeks ago. What we know is they have three really good players; everything goes through them,” said Red Wing head coach Dave Muelken. “Our girls should be up for it and we’ll take our chances against them.”
