Boys Basketball: Buck's return lifts Wingers

Aided by the return of starter Ty Buck, Red Wing got back in the win column on Tuesday with a 63-46 Missota Conference victory at New Prague.

Buck, who returned to action for the first time in a month after suffering a broken foot, scored 10 points and had three assists in the victory. And with his return, the energy on the court picked up for the Wingers.

“It was great to have Ty back. He made some nice plays and the confidence in our guys went up,” said Red Wing head coach Doug Toivonen.

Jon Sevlie was the Wingers’ top scorer with 17 points, and Ben Miller came up with 14 points. Isaac Toivonen just missed scoring in double digits, finishing with nine. Nick Powers helped distribute the ball with three assists.

At the free-throw line, the Wingers converted on 18 of 21 attempts, including a perfect 10-for-10 in the second half.

It was also a solid night defensively for Red Wing as the Trojans had only two players score more than four points.

“Our post guys did a nice job of keeping the ball away from their big guys,” Doug Toivonen said. “On the perimeter, we did a good job of putting pressure on the ball. The kids executed the game plan we had coming in.”

Coming off its second conference win of the season, Red Wing (12-6, 2-5 Missota) heads to Chaska (12-6, 5-2 Missota) on Friday.
