Red Wing knew in order to slow down Northfield on Friday, they would have to slow down six-foot forward Anna Pfefferle.

Tasking Maddie Faas with defending Pfefferle, the Wingers’ senior held the Raiders’ standout to six points, vaulting Red Wing to a 47-39 Missota Conference victory at Sonju Gymnasium.

“We’ve seen Northfield play twice and (Pfefferle) averaged somewhere in the 20s,” said Wingers head coach Dave Muelken. “Maddie played outstanding defense on her tonight.”

On both ends of the floor, McKenzie Muelken put together another strong night with 21 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Kara Norvet added seven points, six rebounds and five assists, and McKenzie Cota had eight points off the bench.

Another strong outing, according to Dave Muelken, came from Hailey Kuhl, who had two points, six boards and three steals.

“She probably played her best game of the year,” Coach Muelken said. “Her help defense was great and she hustled to the ball. She must have created six jump balls.”

Now 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the Missota, the Wingers face one of the conference’s toughest teams on Tuesday, traveling to Chanhassen.
