Boys Hockey: Rochester Mayo blow out Red Wing

Following its first win of the season, the Red Wing boys hockey team celebrated loudly in the locker room. That noise was the opposite of a likely silent bur ride home Saturday following an 11-0 loss to future Big Nine Conference opponent Rochester Mayo.

Logan Haskins scored a third-period goal to complete a hat trick, while Spartan teammate Tommy Hanson scored a goal to go along with three assists.

Justyn Sweet, who finished with three points, opened the scoring at 6 seconds of the first period. Haskins scored his first goal at 0:23, and the rout was on.

The Spartans would add three more goals in the opening frame, followed by three each in the second and third periods.

Mayo (4-1-0) put 37 shots on net, 26 of which were saved by Adam Defore. The Wingers managed only 13 shots on goal. The Spartans were called for just one penalty in the game, while Red Wing killed three of the six power plays against it.

The Wingers (1-6-0) will host Holy Angels (2-2-0) Thursday.
