Cross-Country: Winger boys ninth, girls 14th at Alexandria

Running in the 20-team Alexandria Lions Invitational Saturday, the Red Wing boys cross-country team finished in ninth place with a team score of 245. 

Without their top runner, Aiden Winn, the Wingers were led by sophomore George Nemanich, who placed 26th with a time of 17 minutes, 20.5 seconds. Marcus Warrington was 49th at 17:55.0, and Joe Partington was 54th at 18:04.3. Meyer Beckner (18:06.0) and Ryan Schnaith (18:07.0) rounded out the team score, placing 56th and 60th, respectively.

Winning the team title was Stillwater with 68 points, with Mounds View (109) and Bemidji (127) taking second and third, respectively. Bemidji’s Sam Carlson won the individual crown with a time of 16:14.7.


Led by seventh-grader Jasmyn Armstrong 25th-place time of 15:40.8, the Red Wing girls finished in 14th place with a score of 296. 

Senior Lindsay Scribner placed 34th in 15:51.4, and Elle Bryant took 58th at 16:21.3. Adelle DeSutter (16:31.3) and Hailee Johnson (17:38.3) crossed the finish line at 69th and 110th place, respectively. 

Bemidji (124) held off Mounds View (132) and Roseville (134) to secure the team championship. Individually, Alexandria’s Megan Hasz beat out teammate Bethany Hasz for the individual title with a time of 13:59.7.

I thought program-wise, we had a great meet," said Red Wing head cross-country coach Jesse Nelson. "The kids did a great job of putting any distractions of homecoming and the weather behind them and focused on the task at hand to have a pretty good meet."

The Wingers head to Shakopee on Tuesday.
