Girls Tennis: Red Wing places 3rd at Pine City

Competing in the eight-team Pine City Power Tournament Monday, the Red Wing doubles team of McKenzie Muelken and Lauren Brooks took first place in No. 3 doubles, helping the Wingers to a third-place finish.

Bemidji won the tournament with a team score of 30.

After taking a three-set victory over the team from Bemidji, Muelken and Brooks secured the No. 3 doubles title with a 6-3, 6-3 win against South St. Paul’s Kelly Counihan and Rachel Tappe.

Red Wing’s No. 2 duo of Serena Feehan and Katie Carlson also reached the finals in their bracket. Feehan and Carlson played a tough first set with Bemidji’s Kenzie Schultz and Jenna Lee, but ultimately fell 7-5, 6-0. 

Red Wing plays in its first dual meet of the year Friday at North St. Paul.
