Softball: Wingers fall in tight season opener
The Red Wing softball team was finally able to open its season with a game on Thursday at the Rochester Regional Sports Stadium. The Wingers were unable to come home with a victory, however, dropping the 2-1 contest to Rochester Century.
The Wingers scored their run on six hits, leaving six runners on base, while committing one error.
Hannah Rodgers took the loss but pitched well in her first appearance after taking last year off due to a foot injury. She struck out five and walked four.
The Panthers had six hits but also left 10 runners stranded on base. Grace Henrikson was the winning pitcher. She struck out six and walked two.
Red Wing, 0-1 (0-1 Big Nine) is scheduled to have its home opener against Austin on Tuesday, but weather will be a big factor on whether that game is played or not.
