The Red Wing boys' soccer team wasn't 11 minutes into its season before being confronted with its first taste of adversity when hosting Mankato East on Thursday in a 6-2 loss.

Staring at an early 3-0 deficit to Mankato East, the Wingers got off on the wrong foot starting with goals from Suleiman Haji in the 35th minute, a goal from Devon Swing (33:24) and Arafat Hire (29:13). The Cougars increased its lead to 4-0 before the end of the first half with Swing's second goal of the night.

Red Wing got on the scoreboard in the second half with goals from Jeyson Roque (assisted by Aidan Coyle) and Bryan Lopez (assisted by Barrent Blaney), but the Cougars matched the scoring output.

Swing scored his third goal of the day and Colin Knutson put the lead back at four to close the game.

Red Wing will have an opportunity to get back on track with a trip to Byron on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
