Audubon focuses on swifts

The June 18 Hiawatha Valley Audubon meeting will feature a presentation on the declining chimney swift population. Ron Windingstad, retired home coordinator from Audubon Minnesota, will speak at 7 p.m. in the Izaak Walton Clubhouse.

Over the past 40 years the number of chimney swifts has declined by over 50 percent, with the most precipitous drop within the last decade. Changes in chimney construction and development of modern heating methods have greatly reduced the birds' nesting and roosting sites.

Attend this presentation and learn how Audubon Minnesota is initiating statewide efforts to increase the numbers of this remarkable bird. Area locations to observe swifts will be revealed.
