Wingers tab Olson as next head girls hockey coach
Red Wing has named Nicole Olson as head girls hockey coach following the retirement announcement of coaches Scott Haley and Dan Anderson.
In an email release, Red Wing Athletic Director Bart Gray stated:
"Coach Olson comes highly recommended and qualified — as a collegiate player she was the captain of the St. Mary's College women's hockey team. After serving as a Red Wing Association coach for three years she has knowledge of and working experience with many of the athletes on the girls team. In addition, she has the connection within the association to help insure that the youth level girls are encouraged to continue to play hockey and aspire to one day play for the Wingers. I also feel that Coach Olson will provide an excellent role model for our girls."
Olson stated: "I am extremely honored to become the Red Wing High School girls head hockey coach. Throughout my youth, high school and collegiate hockey career, I have always dreamed of this opportunity. I am beyond thankful and excited that this is now a reality for me. I am eager to start working with this talented group of girls that the Red Wing girls hockey program has developed and I am excited to continue building upon this foundation. I am anxious to get started working with these girls as we get ready for the upcoming season.
"I have asked Bob Kubes to be my assistant coach. He has been coaching in the Red Wing Amateur Hockey Association program, at multiple levels, and has 28 years of coaching experience on and off since 1983."
Gray added, "With the addition of coach Olson and Kubes to our hockey programs, I am confident that now both the girls and boys programs are in very capable hands as we move forward into a new era for both of these programs."
