Girls Hockey: Wingers bounce back with win over Marshall

After Wednesday's loss that dropped them from championship contention, the Red Wing girls' hockey team bounced back with a resounding 7-0 victory over Marshall in the Class A consolation semifinals at Ridder Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Taylor Heise scored six goals, including one eight seconds into the game, after being held scoreless in the Wingers' state quarterfinal loss to Proctor/Hermantown on Wednesday. Eliza DiNatale had Red Wing's other goal, which came at the end of the first period to give the Wingers a 3-0 lead.

Heise scored twice in each period, and also assisted on DiNatale's marker. Meg Grove finished with three assists while goalie Tyler McGrath made 17 saves before giving way to Hailey Ehlers with 10 minutes to play. Ehlers stopped all six shots she faced. Red Wing had 47 shots on goal.

The third-seeded and third-ranked Wingers (24-5-0) will face fifth-seeded and fifth-ranked St. Paul United (20-10-0) at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ridder for fifth place in the consolation final. The Wingers won the regular season matchup on Nov. 11, the second game of the season for both teams.
