Boys Hockey: Wingers rout Winona

Red Wing dominated from the beginning, but it took a period to crack Winona's goalie. In the second period, the Wingers did just that, scoring five times in the middle frame in a 7-1 victory on Tuesday.

After 16 first-period shots were stopped by Alex Benson, Red Wing got consecutive goals in a five-minute span from Cam Blue, Jack Maroushek, Derek Gielau and Jack Nevitt. Evan Carney got the Winhawks lone goal to interrupt the streak, but Mack Maroushek scored 21 seconds before the second-period horn to give the Wingers a 5-1 lead.

Logan Sammon and Blue scored in the third.

Red Wing went 3-for-4 on the power play, and 3-for-3 on the kill. Blue, Nevitt and Michael Stoffel all finished with three points while the Wingers out-shot Winona 49-19. Zach Harding made 18 stops in the win.

Red Wing (2-11) head to Albert Lea on Thursday.
