Area Boys Soccer Wrap: Lake City snaps skid

With a two-goal effort from Charlie White and a one-goal, one-assist games from Luke Meincke and Jacob Sanders, Lake City snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory against Schaeffer Academy on Thursday.

Leading 2-1 at halftime after goals from White (Meincke assist) and Meincke (Brendan Koplin), White (Sanders) got his second goal of the game to build a 3-1 lead. But thanks to back-to-back goals from Dane Bothun and Ekene Mordi, the Lions were able to tie the game up.

But, on an assist from goalkeeper Satchell Ekblad, Sanders was able to provide the game-winning goal to give Lake City the "W."

Ekblad came up with 16 saves in the Tigers' victory.

Lake City (6-6) travels to Plainview-Elgin-Millville on Monday.

PIZM 1, Cannon Falls 1

Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Cannon Falls both had first-half goals, which is where things would end between the two Hiawatha Valley League teams in a 1-1 tie Tuesday in Cannon Falls.

After the Bombers took a 1-0 lead, the Wildcats tied the game up in the 35th minute when Rheis Jensen put in the game-tying goal after receiving an assist from Conner Heitman. Max Smothers came up with eight saves in net for PIZM.

Cannon Falls stats were unavailable.
