Area Volleyball Briefs: K-W opens with a win

Kenyon-Wanamingo allowed just 32 points in its 25-15, 25-9, 25-8 win over Cambridge-Isanti on Saturday at the Side Out Classic in Hopkins.

Ally Peterson had six ace serves and 12 kills for the Knights, with Maddie McCauley dishing out 17 assists. Sydney Way had 11 digs for K-W.

The Knights (1-0) head to Waterville-Elysian-Morristown on Thursday.

Elk River 3, Cannon Falls 0

Cannon Falls opened its season Saturday at the Side Out Classic in Hopkins. The Bombers fell in straight-sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 to Elk River.

Tatum Pickar had 25 digs, four kills and three ace serves for Cannon Falls. Kara Loeschke had 19 assists and seven kills, while Shayla Hustad had a team-high nine kills for the Bombers.

“(We had) some very wonderful hustle plays that resulted in points today, however we need to maintain that effort and focus from start to finish to come out on top against strong teams like Elk River,” said Cannon Falls head coach Melissa Huseth.

The Bombers host Rochester John Marshall on Thursday.
