Softball: Hayfield surges by Goodhue

Down by a slim 1-0 margin after the fourth inning, Hayfield tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth inning, followed by a pair of sixth-inning runs, to pull away from Goodhue for a 6-2 Hiawatha Valley League victory on Friday.

Alissa Bien was 1-for-2 for Goodhue with a solo home run. Katie Pearson, Abby Doerhoefer and Kate Opsahl each had base hits for the Wildcats while Emily Benrud drove in a run. Doerhoefer took the loss after allowing six runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with nine strikeouts.

Goodhue (4-6, 1-5 HVL) plays host to Kenyon-Wanamingo on Monday.
