Wrestling: Ellsworth continues assault on MBC

Ellsworth rang up eight-straight pins to begin Thursday’s Middle Border Conference dual with New Richmond, received three forfeits, then picked up a major decision in the final match to beat the Tigers, 72-7.

Breck Melstrom (152 pounds) opened the dual with a fall, followed by pins from fellow Panthers Tristen Mueller (160), Dalton George (170), Jacob Sigler (182), Carson Johnson (195), Caleb Linder (220), Mike Freund (285) and Matthew Peterson (106).

After three forfeits, New Richmond broke the 66-point run with a decision from Bryce Younger (132) and a major decision from Seth Leavens (138). One final Tiger forfeit closed the dual.

Ellsworth will head to Hudson on Saturday for an invitational. A home dual against Osceola awaits the Panthers on Thursday, with a road trip to Inver Grove Heights to take on Simley on Friday.
