Football: Stewartville trounces Z-M

Before Friday’s game was postponed, Stewartville led Zumbrota-Mazeppa 14-0 with six minutes to go in the first quarter. Then when the game resumed on Saturday, the Tigers jumped out to a 50-0 halftime lead.

By the time it was all done, Stewartville had dismantled the Cougars by a score of 71-7 in a Southern Football Alliance cross-division game in Stewartville.

Getting the lone score for Z-M was backup quarterback Isaiah Stueber, who connected with Jacob Niebuhr for a 12-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Teryn Erickson kicked the extra point.

“There wasn’t much positives in this game,” Cougars head coach Willie Rauen said following the loss.

No other statistics were available on Saturday.

Z-M (0-1) stays on the road Friday for its SFA White Division opener against Lewiston-Altura.
