Volleyball: Bombers win opener in five

Katie Noble and Danielle Hansen combined for 25 kills as Cannon Falls started out 2014 on the right foot with a 3-2 (25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 22-25, 15-10) victory over Glencoe-Silver Lake on Saturday in the inaugural Side Out Classic at Hopkins High School.

“Glencoe was a great match up for us,” said Cannon Falls head coach Melissa Huseth. “(G-SL was) similar in size on the court and I felt they played with the same intensity that we did. We started the season strong and we were able to sustain the intensity needed to win a well-fought match. Our team passing was exactly where we needed it to be and I was very happy with our team blocking too. We had a combined total of 34 blocks. I am very happy with their fight for the win.”

Noble led the Bombers with 13 kills and seven ace blocks. Hansen added 12 kills and four ace blocks while Caroline Bowen paced Cannon Falls with four ace serves. Sami Cromer had a team high 28 digs.

The Bombers (1-0) will be on the road once again on Thursday with a visit to Red Wing.
