Panther golfers finish seventh at state meet
MADISON - The Ellsworth High School boys' golf team finished the WIAA State Meet in seventh place in the Division 2 field out of eight teams.
The Panthers continued to struggle on the University Ridge course during the second day of the meet Tuesday. Ellsworth shot a 350 the first day and a 355 the second, finishing with a grand total score of 705, which was 129 strokes above par for a team (576)
EHS individual second day scores were Chrystian Kulow 84, Bryce Stein 86, Emery Whalen 91, Mike Tingelhoff 94 and Kyle Kurrelmeyer 99.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial won the D-2 state title as they overcame first round leader Madison Edgewood by shooting a 302 on the second day of the meet. Edgewood finished second with a score of 614 to Memorial's 607. Other D-2 team scores were Sheboygan Falls 647, River Valley 649, Marinette 663, Osceola 664, Ellsworth 705 and Manitowoc Roncalli 731.
Chris Colla of Winnebago Lutheran Aacademy won the state individual title. He finished four under par after shooting a second round 72 Tuesday. Sheboygan Falls's Matt Bachmann was second at even par (144) and WCM's Dylan Allen was third at one over par for the tournament.
Ellsworth was participating in its first state meet since 2000.
