Softball: Tigers' season ends in section opener

Top-seeded Spring Grove/Caledonia jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first inning and never slowed down in a 34-0 five-inning blowout over eighth-seeded Lake City in the Section 1AA-East playoffs Monday.

Nothing went right for the Tigers, who did not get a runner on base, and committed 14 errors in the loss.

“We had three errors in (the first) inning,” Tigers’ head coach Mike Johnson said. “The gates opened and never shut.”

Led by Lottie Augedahl, Spring Grove/Caledonia had seven players finish with three or more hits. Augedahl was 6-for-6 with six RBI and five runs scored. Samantha Bratland was 5-for-5 with six RBI and four runs, and Taylor Augedahl, Marie Doering and Jordan Anderson each scored four times in the win.

Bratland was perfect in five innings for Spring Grove/Caledonia, striking out 12 of 15 batters.

The Tigers end the year at 0-17 overall.
