Baseball: Cannon Falls sweeps Goodhue

Another day, another clean sweep for 14th-ranked (Class 2A) Cannon Falls as they beat Goodhue 7-2 in Game 1 and 8-0 in Game 2.

Playing a pair of five-inning games, the Bombers jumped on the Wildcats early with a 1-0 lead after one. Then in the second inning, Hunter Blakeslee belted a two-out grand slam as part of a five-run inning for the Bombers. Blakeslee went 1-for-2, and Levi Prestegard went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI in the Game 1 win. Bryce Boyle-Hoban also scored twice in the opener. Carter Dombeck struck out five and limited Goodhue to four hits and two walks for the win.

For the Wildcats  in Game 1, Austin Buck was 1-for-3 with two RBI, with Alex Thomforde and Riley Augustine each reaching home in the loss.

In the series finale, Blakeslee struck again with a two-out RBI double in the first. Prestegard drove in three runs and scored twice, and Taylor Carlson and Derek Johnson also scored twice in the Bombers’ win. Quinton Lindow was the Game 2 winner, striking out six while allowing just two hits and zero walks. Thomforde and Augustine were the only Goodhue players to reach base in the night cap.

The Bombers play host to Simley on Thursday, while the Wildcats host Triton for a doubleheader on Friday.
