Softball: Tigers held to one hit in loss

Kenyon-Wanamingo, led by pitcher Shayla Berkner, held Lake City to one hit on the way to a 15-0 five-inning Hiawatha Valley League victory Friday.

Berkner finished the game with four strikeouts and two walks on the way to a victory. The Tigers’ lone hit came from Megan Schramski, a single in the third inning.

The Knights’ top hitter was Ellyn Beulke, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Maddie Anfinson had three RBI, and Kailee Berquam finished with three runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Aside from the 10 runs K-W put up, errors gave the Tigers fits on Friday.

“Errors killed us. We could have shut them down but errors were the death of us,” said Lake City head coach Mike Johnson. “It was the difference in the game.”

The Tigers resume play Monday at home against Hayfield.
