Boys Golf: Lake City splits HVL tri

Lake City split a Hiawatha Valley League triangular Tuesday against Triton and Zumbrota-Mazeppa with the Cobras coming out on top with a 330. The Tigers posted a 337, and the Cougars came in third with a 380.

Zach Otto and Jaden Thiemann, both of Triton, tied for medalist honors with scores of 78.

Lake City was led by Sam Klipfel’s 83 while Parker Schurhammer and Levi Herbst came in a shot behind at 84. Brennan Rothgarn (86), Cory Dick (86) and Alex Meincke (93) rounded out Lake City’s scoring.

"I know this team is capable of shooting a score much lower than 337," said Lake City coach Luther Berkeland. "Our goal is to lower that by at least eight shots when we go to Hayfield for our next competition on Thursday. If we want to contend in the HVL, that's what needs to happen."
