Softball: Ten-run inning lifts Z-M to win

It was over in the third, but a final after the fifth as Zumbrota-Mazeppa trounced Rochester Lourdes 11-1 in five innings on Monday.

The Cougars had a 10-run third inning, and pounded out 15 hits total. Lourdes, meanwhile, scored in the first on two hits, then were blanked the rest of the way.

Amber Gehrke led the way for Z-M, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Tayler Mort had a similar night, ending up 3-for-4 with two runs, a double and an RBI. Carlie Henning had three hits in four at-bats with a run and an RBI double while Ali Frederixon went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Morgan Olson was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while picking up the win in the circle going four innings and allowing one run and two hits to go with six strikeouts.

The Cougars (9-1) will host Section 1AA rival and last year’s Class 2A state runner-up Kasson-Mantorville Tuesday.
