Baseball: Lake City falls late to La Crescent

Spotty defense cost Lake City once again Thursday afternoon as the Tigers committed five errors to fall to La Crescent, 4-3.

Lake City scored all three of its runs in the first inning, and totaled seven hits on the day. The Lancers scored once in the third, once in the fourth and twice in the bottom of the seventh while also coming up with seven hits.

The Tigers’ one-run lead in the final inning evaporated on a passed ball and an error.

“We have to play through it,” Lake City head coach Perry Iberg said. “It was a situation where we played a good game, and it just fell apart. We squandered some chances, but it was a well-played game until the seventh.”

Elliot Cox led the Tigers going 2-for-4 with two doubles while Reid Lundell went 1-for-2 with an RBI double. John Brown, Michael Noll and Jarrett Thomas all had one hit.

Noll started the game on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and four walks while striking out two. Lundell pitched 1/3 of an inning, taking the loss on one unearned run and one hit.
