Baseball: Lake City splits double-header

River Falls scored twice each in the first, second and seventh innings to hold off Lake City, 7-2, Saturday afternoon.

Reid Lundell collected both RBI for the Tigers with a bases-clearing double in the third inning that followed a Trevor Gnotke double, and a John Brown single.

Lake City managed just six hits in the game, and none came after the third.

Michael Pfeilsticker was saddled with the loss, pitching five and one-third innings, giving up five earned runs, seven hits and three walks while striking out two. Michael Noll gave up the other two runs, both earned.

The Tigers rebounded from the loss with a 1-0 victory over Sibley East that saw Pfeilsticker’s RBI groundout in the fourth inning be the difference.

The two teams combined for eight hits, five of which Lake City dispersed through seven innings.

Reid Lundell got the win on the mound, throwing six innings of two-hit ball. Lundell walked two batters and struck out nine before giving way to Brown for the seventh. Brown picked up the save in a four-batter ninth that ended with a runner thrown out at home.

The Tigers are scheduled to host Stewartville on Tuesday and Cannon Falls on Thursday.
