Baseball: Late surge not enough for Bombers

Cannon Falls scored three runs in the final two innings but it was not enough for the Bombers to overcome La Crescent in a 9-8 loss Tuesday in La Crescent.

Cannon Falls went up 5-1 after the second inning, but the Lancers put together a seven-run fifth inning that put the game out of reach.

"We had a great start. Our guys had nice at-bats. La Crescent was just able to bust everything open with the big fifth inning," said Bombers' head coach Bucky Lindow. "There were many close plays and interesting things that happened that inning. Part of our growth as a team will be to make the pitch or play that will end innings like that."

Hunter McCallson finished 2-for-4 with two runs and a home run for La Crescent, while Dillon McKinnon went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

For the Bombers, Hunter Blakeslee finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, and Brock Peterson had a double and two RBI. Jonathan Sharot picked up two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Cannon Falls (0-1) stays on the road Thursday against Stewartville.
