Track and Field: Wingers, Panthers compete at UW-Stout

Red Wing had two, top-three finishers in the girls 800-meter run at Tuesday’s Blue Devil Open in Menomonie, Wis.

Elise Leise and Kianna Stewart finished second and third, respectively, behind Miranda Miller of Hudson. Leise finished in 2 minutes, 26.39 seconds, just a bit ahead of Stewart’s 2:35.59. Jasmyn Armstrong also ran a strong race, taking second in the 1,600 in 5:38.93.

The Wingers 1,600 relay team took fourth with a time of 4:34.38 while Jennifer Salter matched that in the shot put with a long throw of 34 feet, 9 inches.

The Winger boys were led by Darrick Jackson placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 54.02, while Joe Partington closed the 800 with a seventh-place time of 2:13.67.

Forest Evanson’s 11:43.45 was good for ninth in the 3,200, and the 1,600 relay team came in sixth at 3:54.22.

Grahm Johnson took sixth in the shot with a throw of 43-4.5.

As a team, the Red Wing girls placed ninth with 32 points. River Falls ran away with the title, taking top honors with 83.5 points. Ellsworth finished 19th with four points. Joanne Lanegran placed seventh in the 200 (29.02) for the Panthers, while teammate Olivia Helmer also came in seventh with a triple jump of 30-6.

The Winger boys placed 13th with 13 points, with Hudson taking first place with 86.5 points. Ellsworth finished 21st with six points. Xavier Motley paced the Panther boys with a run of 8.23 in the 55-meter hurdles.
