First team

Brady Kuchinka, so., Lake City (Player of the Year)

18.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 3.8 apg, 2.9 spg. HVL All-Conference.

Lake City head coach Greg Berge: “(Kuchinka)is one of the most talented players in our area. He is very skilled right now and works as hard as anyone to improve his game. We were a different team when Brady returned from injury. Brady was a unanimous all-conference selection, team MVP, and is very deserving of All-Area.”

Brock Peterson, sr., Cannon Falls

14.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.7 apg. 2012-13 HVL. HVL All-Conference.

Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson: “One of five senior starters and a captain, Brock has spent countless hours in the gym working on his game. He has a high basketball IQ and practices as hard as he plays. (Peterson) scored a career-high 38 points against St. Croix Lutheran and ends his career as Cannon Falls’ No. 7 all-time scorer (930) and eighth in single-season scoring (427). Not just a scorer, Brock is seventh on the list of career assists (195).”

Reid Lundell, sr., Lake City

15.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.6 apg. HVL All-Conference. Minnesota High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

Lake City head coach Greg Berge: “(Lundell is) the best leader I have ever coached. He leads with his voice and by example. He is a true student athlete, earning Academic All-State (only 35 players earned this honor in the state). Due to injuries at the beginning of the year, we asked Reid to a lot for our team and he responded with a fabulous season. He was a unanimous all-conference selection, won our leadership award and coaches’ award, and is very deserving of All-Area.”

Jon Sevlie, sr., Red Wing

12.5 ppg

Red Wing head coach Doug Toivonen: “(Sevlie) guarded the other team’s best perimeter player all year.

Isaac Toivonen, sr., Red Wing

13 points, 8 rebounds per game, Missota All-Conference

Red Wing head coach Doug Toivonen: “Isaac was a three-year starter (and) guarded [the opponents’] best post player all year.”

Toivonen on Sevile and Toivonen: “Both were senior captains and were big parts of teams that made the section finals the last two years. Both could have averaged more points per game but sacrificed shots to help our team be more successful. When you have a team that is very balanced, statistics do not tell the whole story.”

Second team

Hunter Johnson, sr., Cannon Falls

10.0 ppg, 5.3 apg, 2.3 spg, 3.3 rpg, HVL All-Conference

Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson: “Hunter had a great senior season, setting the single-season assists mark at 153. His 209 career assists ranks fifth all time for Cannon Falls. He’s also a tough defender, leading the team with 68 steals this season. A competitor, Hunter’s best games were when the lights were the brightest.”

Tyler Schumacher, jr., Goodhue

11.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg. HVL All-Conference.

Goodhue head coach Matt Halverson: “(Tyler was) one of our more dynamic play makers. A guy whose defense was very average last year, to being one of our better zone defenders this year. Can stretch a team out while still being able to attack himself. He was number two on team in rebounds, steals, and field goal percentage. He will be one of our captains on next year's team.”

Ty Buck, jr., Red Wing

15 ppg.

Red Wing head coach Doug Toivonen: “He missed 11 games due to injury but was still our leading scorer.”

Ellis Hirman, sr., Zumbrota-Mazeppa

15.6 ppg, 10.4 rpg, tied school record 21 rebounds in 1 game. HVL All-Conference.

Z-M head coach Fred Liffrig: “Ellis was an all-around player. He led us in steals, points, and rebounds. He was very tough to defend because of his athleticism. He played point guard for us in our playoff game, but was very tough to defend in the post.”

Alex Bultena, sr., Cannon Falls

12.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 spg, 1.2 apg. HVL All-Conference.

Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson: “Alex had a breakout year and was one of the most consistent players on our squad. A forward that can run the court, play inside and knock down the three, Alex is a tough match up for opposing teams. He was our second leading rebounder and shot 48.5 percent from the field. Physical enough to defend the interior and athletic enough to defend the perimeter, Alex, most nights, drew our opponent’s toughest player.”
