Boys Basketball: Lake City keeps it going

Only five players scored for Lake City Saturday night, but it was enough to send the fourth-seeded Tigers to the Sub-section 1AA East semifinals with a 66-61 victory over fifth-seeded St. Charles.

Brady Kuchinka led Lake City with 20 points, followed by Jess Oliver’s 15, and Reid Lundell’s 15. Eli Custer (8) and Cory Dick (5) were the only other Tigers to add to the point total.

The Saints took a similar approach as Devin Decker and Andy Buck combined to score 27 points, getting help from just four other teammates.

Much like the scoring, nearly every other stat was close. The Tigers won the rebounding battle, barely, 27-26. Lake City also had more points in the paint, 34-30, and had one fewer turnover than St. Charles 20-19.

The Tigers (16-9) will now head to the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester to face top-seeded Caledonia, who topped eighth-seeded Lewiston-Altura 98-70, at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of that game will play in the sub-section final at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 1, back at Mayo Civic.
