Wrestling: Stewartville rolls over Lake City

Lake City won five matches Thursday against Stewartville, though just two ended with bonus points going to Lake City, as Stewartville pulled away to a 43-18 Hiawatha Valley League victory.

Carl Kozlowski (120 pounds) earned a sudden-victory decision over Ryan Clark to get Lake City on the board, though the local Tigers trailed 8-3 at that point.

Three matches later, Andrew Schmidt (138) closed out a 7-5 decision over Brady Keefe, but Stewartville’s edge remained, sitting at 16-6.

Shane Siewert (160) put four points on the board with a major decision over Aaron Clark, but by the time Michael Noll (220) got a five-point technical fall, and Andrew Denzer closed with an 8-2 decision, the dual was all but over.

With the regular season in the books, Lake City will focus on the Section 1A team tournament that begins Thursday, Feb. 13, and ends two days later. The individual section tournament runs Feb. 21-22 at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester. The team semifinals and finals will also be in Rochester.
