Girls Basketball: Goodhue's balance trumps Lake City

Using a balanced scoring attack, fourth-ranked Goodhue cruised past Lake City for a 75-40 Hiawatha Valley League victory Tuesday in Goodhue.

Mikayla Miller led the Wildcats’ charge with 22 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals. Behind her, Shelby Hinsch had 14 points, Meredith Watson had 12, Michelle Hadler tallied nine, and Megan Ryan and Sydney Lodermeier had seven points apiece. Rachel Watson added to Goodhue’s effort with seven rebounds.

“Our goal coming in was to get balanced scoring from our girls and we got it,” said Wildcats’ head coach Josh Wieme. “And we had eight 3-pointers, which was good to see. We haven’t shot the three very well, and we end up with five different players with 3-pointers.”

Breanna Gates was the Tigers’ top scorer with 12 points. Madi Green chipped in with 11 in the loss.

Goodhue (14-4, 8-3 HVL) hosts Blooming Prairie on Thursday while Lake City (7-9, 3-8 HVL) returns home to play Cannon Falls on Friday.
