Girls Basketball: Miller shatters school record in Goodhue win

In a 78-44 victory over Zumbrota-Mazeppa Tuesday, Goodhue’s Mikayla Miller had not only the highest-scoring game in team history, she now has the highest-scoring game in her family.

With 46 points against the Cougars, Mikayla broke the previous school-record high of 42, set by her mother Joy Miller (Matthees) back in 1989. Mikayla also had six rebounds and eight steals in the victory.

“She just really had it going tonight,” said Wildcats head coach Josh Wieme.

Kali Ryan chipped in 13 points for Goodhue, and Meredith Watson came down with six rebounds. As a team, the Wildcats forced Z-M into 26 turnovers.

“They just ran us out of the gym,” said Cougars head coach Scott Paukert.

Tayler Mort finished with 12 points and five rebounds, and Kalli Paukert finished with nine points and seven assists.

Fourth-ranked (1A) Goodhue heads to second-ranked (2A) Kenyon-Wanamingo on Friday, while Z-M hosts St. Charles on Thursday.
