Wrestling: K-W too much for Cannon Falls

After five matches, Cannon Falls and Kenyon-Wanamingo were tied 12-12 Saturday. But the Knights effectively put the dual away as K-W won the next four matches, three by fall, to run away from the Bombers 48-18.

Paul Fitterer got Cannon Falls on the board with a 7-0 decision at 120 pounds. Fitterer beat Jared Clawiter, 7-0, though Cannon Falls still trailed 12-3.

Ryan Epps (126) then got a 13-3 major decision over Matthew Houglum while Keston Lopez (132) followed with a 15-0 technical fall against Dylan Craig.

But that would be the last of the good feelings for the Bombers until Derek Johnson and Nathan Melhouse recorded decisions at 182 and 195, respectively. But by then, the Knights, ranked eighth in Class A, had built a 39-12 lead.

No. 11 (Class AA) Cannon Falls will face another stiff test Thursday when they travel to take on fourth-ranked (Class AA) Kasson-Mantorville.
