Boys Basketball: Johnson's buzzer-beater puts Bombers past BA

In a defensive struggle with Bethlehem Academy on Saturday, it took a half-court heave from Hunter Johnson at the buzzer to put the Bombers past the visiting Cardinals, 41-38.

“It looked like it was coming up short, but it kept on sailing, right through the hoop,” Cannon Falls head coach Josh Davisson said of the game-winning shot.

“It was a very good game to be a part of, especially for it to be on our end.”

The game-winner capped off a solid all-around night for Johnson, who had nine points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

“Hunter has been playing very well as of late,” Davisson said. “He’s starting to figure out his role. As our point guard, he’s distributing the ball better, and he’s doing a nice job of shooting and play defense. He’s been kind of a spark for us.”

Brock Peterson led the Bombers with 11 points, and Jordan Lundell had six points in the victory.

The Cardinals had two players finish in double figures as Pete Clark had 12 points and Joe Matejcek finished with 10.

“I thought we did a good job defensively (on Saturday),” Davisson said. “You hold a team to 38, you think you’ll end up on the right end of it. You just don’t expect it to be a 41-38 game.”

Cannon Falls (8-7) stays home Tuesday for a Hiawatha Valley League game with Kenyon-Wanamingo.
