Girls Basketball: Pine Island pounces on Cannon Falls

Thanks to four players finishing in double digits, Pine Island was able to put away a scrappy Cannon Falls team for a 68-47 Hiawatha Valley League victory Friday in Cannon Falls.

Sam Heeren led the Panthers’ charge with 18 points, followed by Noelle Langworthy (14), Nicole Fokken (12) and Kalley Berg (10). Pine Island shot 49 percent from the field, compared to 26 percent for Cannon Falls.

Anna Rapp led the Bombers with 13 points, while Courtney Woodcock and Katie Noble chipped in with seven points apiece. Maggie Rutter tallied five rebounds and two assists in the loss.

Cannon Falls (2-8, 0-6 HVL) continues its grueling stretch of games on Tuesday against second-ranked (2A) Kenyon-Wanamingo, followed by fourth-ranked (1A) Goodhue on Friday.
