Girls Basketball: Z-M hits empty against Kasson-Mantorville

Zumbrota-Mazeppa trailed by just eight in the first half, 26-18, but Kasson-Mantorville completely took over in the second half on the way to a 60-34 Hiawatha Valley League victory Friday in Zumbrota.

The KoMets had a trio of players – Cori Kennedy, Taylor Miller and Kristin Scott – finish in double digits. Kennedy and Miller had 13 points apiece, and Scott finished with 12.

K-M ripped down 15 offensive rebounds, and controlled the glass all game, out-rebounding Z-M 37-23.

Tayler Mort had eight points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Cougars, while Molly Lawler added eight points in the loss.

“In the second half, we ran out of gas, and they hit their shots,” said Z-M head coach Scott Paukert.

The Cougars (3-6, 2-4 HVL) head to Pine Island on Tuesday.
