Girls Basketball: Goodhue's defense stifles Lourdes

After Hayfield put up 74 points against Goodhue on Friday, the Wildcats were anxioius to flush that loss and get back to being one of the most imposing defensive teams in the area.

And with a 59-23 Hiawatha Valley League win over Rochester Lourdes on Tuesday, Goodhue was back in form, holding the Eagles to 10 first-half points as well as no players finishing in double digits.

“After our loss Friday, we’ve really been pushing the defensive end and the girls really responded to the challenge tonight,” said Wildcats’ head coach Josh Wieme. “We made it real tough on Lourdes. Any looks they got, they worked really hard for.”

On the offensive end, Mikayla Miller led Goodhue with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds. Meredith Watson put in a solid all-around night with 11 points, five steals and four rebounds, and Kali Ryan tacked on nine in the victory.

Now 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the HVL, the Wildcats host Kasson-Mantorville on Friday.
