Girls Basketball: Fourth-ranked Goodhue continues to roll
Fourth-ranked (1A) Goodhue continues to roll through its competition, picking up a 78-37 Hiawatha Valley League victory over Stewartville Thursday in Goodhue.
Up 10-6 in the first half, the Wildcats blew the game wide open with a 26-point run to go up 36-6.
“The first half, we got off to kind of a slow start, but we got some long rebounds and some steals and we pushed the ball hard,” said Goodhue head coach Josh Wieme. “We had everyone running with Mikayla (Miller) and that’s what broke it open.”
Miller tacked on 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals. Shelby Hinsch tallied 16 points and six rebounds, and Kali Ryan added 11 in the victory.
Goodhue (4-0) heads to Hopkins to take on eighth-ranked Win-E-Mac in the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic. Game time is set for 12:45 p.m.
“That’s going to be a neat early-season matchup for us,” Wieme said. “They’re a highly-ranked 1A team that played in the state tournament last year.”
