Girls Basketball: Slow start dooms Z-M at Dover-Eyota tourney

Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s offense struggled to gain traction in its season opener Friday as the Cougars fell 65-46 to Kasson-Mantorville at the Dover-Eyota tournament. 

Z-M stumbled out of the gate, going 3-for-26 from the field as the KoMets took a 36-17 halftime lead. 

Carley Henning was the Cougars’ top performer on Friday, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds on the way to a double-double. Kalli Paukert had 12 points, five rebounds and two steals, and Hailey Dykes scored six points, grabbed six boards and had three steals. 

Kristin Scott was K-M’s top scorer with 15 points.

Z-M resumes tournament play at 6 p.m. today against Lanesboro.
