Boys Basketball: Lake City can't fend off Stewartville comeback

A fast start and a halftime lead were not enough for Lake City Tuesday night at Stewartville as the home Tigers were knocked off by the visitors, 64-58 in Lake City.

Jesse Oliver led Lake City with 25 points, including five 3-pointers. Reid Lundell added 16 points and eight rebounds while Eli Custer hauled in nine rebounds and scored six points.

Lake City took a 9-0 lead before Stewartville scored its first bucket with 12 minutes, 49 seconds left in the first half. After that, Stewartville went on a 16-2 run to take a five-point lead.

But Lake City fought back to take a 31-28 lead at the break, only to watch it fall by the wayside after Stewartville’s Aaron Quandt converted a four-point play with 6:09 to go in the game. That surge gave Stewartville a five-point lead that it would not squander.

Quandt finished with 22 points, including an 11 of 15 mark from the free-throw line. As a team, Stewartville took 36 foul shots to Lake City’s 18.

Lake City (0-2) will travel to Wabasha-Kellogg for a 6:30 p.m. game Saturday.
