Volleyball: Goodhue closes regular season with win

Goodhue closed out the regular season on a high note, putting away Byron in a three-set victory, 25-13, 25-14, 25-23, in Hiawatha Valley League play Tuesday in Goodhue.

Meredith Watson was the Wildcats’ top hitter with 14 kills, while she also had 14 digs. Mikayla Miller had a team-high 19 digs with 11 kills, and Mikayla Tipcke finished with 42 set assists and 17 digs. Tipcke also led a solid serving attack, tacking on three of Goodhue’s eight ace serves.

The Bears’ Taya Johnson had 11 set assists, and Lexi Barth had eight kills and five ace serves. Bri Rutgers added to Byron’s strong serving night with four aces.

“Our offense looked good tonight, bout our defense still struggled a little bit,” said Wildcats’ head coach Lindsey Mace. “I still think we got a lot of stuff to work on if we want to get to the next level.”

Goodhue (21-7, 8-4 HVL) opens up Section 1A play next week. Section seeding takes place on Wednesday.
