Volleyball: Cougars recover to defeat Hayfield

After a shaky start to Tuesday’s Hiawatha Valley League match against Hayfield, Zumbrota-Mazeppa stormed back to beat the Vikings in five sets, 13-25, 25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9.

“After the first one, it was like, ‘Oh no, it’s one of those nights,’” said Cougars’ head coach Stacy Liebenow. “We came out of it, fought back and played hard. The girls did a good job.”

At the net, Carley Henning led Z-M with 20 kills while adding three ace serves. Molly Lawler patrolled the back court with 43 digs and three ace serves, and Kalli Paukert finished with 36 set assists in the victory.

On Thursday, the Cougars (9-8, 5-5 HVL) continue conference play at Byron.
