Volleyball: Cannon Falls sweeps Triton

After a league loss to one of the best teams in the state, the Cannon Falls volleyball team rebounded Tuesday with a three-set, 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Hiawatha Valley League foe Triton.

“We played excellent defense and our passing was spectacular, which was really good to see after playing Stewartville. We really worked on positioning the last couple of days,” said Cannon Falls head coach Melissa Huseth. “And I got everybody in the game, and our level of play stayed solid, which was nice to see.”

The Bombers were led in large part by the group honored with Senior Night, starting with Becca Vandenheuvel’s team-high 18 digs. “She played really well,” Huseth said. “Her passing was spot on all night.”

Lydia Franken had an all-around solid night as well, totaling nine digs, four ace serves and 21 assists.

“Lydia had a really good night,” Huseth said.

Not to be out done, Madasyn Hofstedt chipped in with five kills and a team-high four ace blocks.

Others contributing to the win included Caroline Bowen and Sami Cromer, who each had eight digs, and Anna Nelson, who had seven digs. Hailey Huseth had six kills and 13 assists while Katie Noble added five kills.

The Bombers (13-9 overall, 7-2 HVL) will travel to Lake City Thursday.
