Football: Zumbrota-Mazeppa crushed by Lewiston-Altura

Thanks to five first-half touchdowns, Lewiston-Altura cruised to a 62-8 Southern Football Alliance White division victory over Zumbrota-Mazeppa Friday in Zumbrota.

“They got off to a good start, and it just snowballed for us,” said Cougars’ head coach Willie Rauen.

The Cardinals tacked on two touchdowns in a 58-second span with a 12-yard run by Shawn Wegman and a 25-yard interception return for a score with 6:52 left in the first quarter.

Z-M got its only score with 1:21 left in the first when quarterback Freedom Hunt went 17 yards for a rushing touchdown.

It didn’t take long for Lewiston-Altura to turn the game into a blowout with three second-quarter touchdowns: a 3-yard run by Storm Seefeldt, a 62-yard run from Brady Lange and 17-yard run by Collin Rain.

The Cardinals chalked up four more rushing scores in the second half, including an 89-yard touchdown by Andrew Knapczyk.

Hunt led the Cougars in rushing and passing with 27 yards on the ground and 98 yards in the air. Hunter Prodzinski hauled in seven catches for 57 yards in the loss.

Z-M (3-2, 3-1 SFA White) travels to St. Charles next Friday.
