Girls Soccer: Lake City hobbled by Kasson-Mantorville

Facing one of the Hiawatha Valley League’s top teams, Lake City girls soccer coach Mark Spence had two goals for his team against eighth-ranked (1A) Kasson-Mantorville Thursday evening.

But just one of them came to fruition in a 7-0 defeat.

“The girls played very hard and gave it a great effort. We went in with two things: play hard and come away with no injuries. Unfortunately, we came back with a couple girls injured. We lost one of our best players midway through the first with a leg injury, (in) Brandy White. (Then we) lost another one, Riley Pennington, to a bad ankle injury.”

Beth Petersen had nine saves in the game while Lindy Holmstadt came up with seven saves in the second half.

The Tigers (2-7) next match is Monday when Winona Cotter makes the trip to Lake City.
